Kerala School Youth festival
Kerala School Kalolsavam or Kerala School youth festival is one of the biggest cultural festivals.Various art forms are presented by the most talented students which is a rich artistic treat. It is conducted annually by the government of kerala around the month of January which showcases artistic talent of the school students.Thousands of students from the state participate in the festival in various art and literary competitions.Winners of competitions in the district level take part in State level.The festival was started in 1957 under the guidance of C.S. Venkitersawaran director of education .Today it is conducted at different districts in the state so that people allover the state can get a chance to enjoy the festival.
In 2017, the festival is conducted at Kannur district (jan 16-22).There are about 232 events in which thousands of students participate. There are about 20 venues where competitions are held. The structure of the festival and how it has to be organised is planned by the education department. Food and accommodation is provide for the participants. Stages are made so that thousands of people can watch the festival.Today TV channels telecast the programmes from the venue itself. Golden Cup of 117.5 sovereign gold is awarded to the overall winning Revenue District.The winning students get trophies, grace marks and cash prizes. Many get an entry to the film world as film personalities searching for talent watch the Kalolsavam eagerly.
Today one can see various personalities in art and literature who have emerged from this festival.
Renowed Malayalam singers like K.J Yesudas, Jayachandran, Chitra Film Stars like Vineeth, Manju Warrier, Navya Nair, Pakru and many more. Many art forms have been revived and got an audience through the festival.
