Krishnanattam is dance drama that tells the story of Lord Krishna. The Zamorin Raja Manaveda created Krishnanattam based on Krishnagithi which he authored. The performance of the dance drama is conducted at Guruvayur temple.It conducted as an offering to Lord Krishna. The eight different plays that are a part of Krishnanattam are Avataram, Kaliyamardanam, Rasakrida, Kamsavadham, Swayamvaram, Banayuddham, Vividavadham and Swargarohanam. The artform resembles Kathakali. But dancing is given more prominence than acting in this dance form. The musical instruments used nare Chengila,Madalam, Ellathallam. The singersa are called Ponnani and Singidi like in Kathakali.
